Learning Index - Should We?

A better name is probably needed…

Overview

This project is to compile an enormous list of tutorials, training materials, courses, etc., that a GIS person could use to learn new skills.

An index of learning resources would be really useful, but what does it look like? I don’t know if the forum is actually a good spot for it as a single topic. We want something that lets users filter by tag, search, sort, etc.

Unless we made topics in Resources (or its own category?) with tagging here on the forum? Suppose we used a category, maybe we could enable up/down voting on the topics so that the resources self-sort by user feedback? Might be a Forum Working Group question.

I’m loathe to jump on some other platform that we don’t own, but hosting it ourselves will put it out of reach for most folks to contribute to easily. The forum has the benefit of being pretty easy to give other users access.

Are we reinventing the wheel?

Maybe this isn’t something worth our time and efforts. There are sites like

that have all kinds of links and articles specific to growing your skills as a GIS professional.

Linking out to these kinds of sites from the ILGISA website might be enough. Thoughts?
