Introduction: Dan Bartlett

Hello All! I am Dan Bartlett and currently serve as the GIS Manager for Cook County Government’s Bureau of Technology. I have been with Cook County since 2023 and joined ILGISA that same year. Prior to joining the County, I worked in mosquito control operations as the GIS Supervisor, various positions in field operations leadership and participated in applied research of vector-borne diseases.

Every day I get to work with a driven, talented team of GIS Professionals. I believe in the mission of providing services and solutions for the county and for our residents. [Cook Central] (https://hub-cookcountyil.opendata.arcgis.com/) is our open geospatial repository of data, maps and apps. County use cases are expansive and there is always more to learn about application of GIS technology.

GIS found me in 2013. I did not have any exposure to GIS until I began working with it professionally. If I had to pick a favorite part of GIS or adjacent work, it would be remote sensing and image analysis. There is so much insight to be gained from these data and the continuous increase in access and resolutions creates many opportunities to work with these data.

I hope to become more involved with ILGSIA and recently joined the Professional Development committee.
